PEMBI
THE GREATER PEMBI
The total conservancy area of close to 400,000 hectares is made up of private areas, high-density breeding areas (Pumbze Reserve) and high-risk sanctuaries for vulnerable species. The majority of the conservancy (325,915 ha) is fully fenced to protect it from human encroachment, trespassing and poaching of both fauna and flora. There are 44 independent areas, or conservation blocks, which have been identified that will be acquired by private owners. These areas are to be placed under the full private custodianship of investors as owners and protectors.
While each area is stand-alone on a separate duat (comparable to a title deed), it still forms part of the greater Pembi. It will indefinitely be part of the broader conservation area. Traversing of the greater area is cleverly planned to allow for 120km of roads without infringing on private areas – giving access to diversity, while protecting privacy.
THE STORY OF PEMBI CONSERVANCY
The story of Pembi is one heard throughout Africa. This natural paradise boasts various different eco-systems capable of sustaining large wildlife communities. As with many of the wild areas in Africa, wildlife is still found in abundance due to the area’s history as a hunting concession. Anti-poaching teams patrolled the area for many years due to the commercial value placed on animals by the previous owners of the area.
As with many parts of Africa, this served only to delay the inevitable but also offered the opportunity to acquire the area for the purposes of preserving and allowing nature to flourish without human intervention.
